Time To Sell Your Website? 3 Tips To Ensure You Get The Right Price For It

If you have decided that you want to sell your website, you're probably asking yourself "How can I sell my website online and make sure I get the right price for it?" You have likely put a lot of work into your site, and already have it set up well so someone else can be successful once they buy it.  Do not sell yourself short on what you did, and follow the tips below so you can walk away with what you deserve.

Get Your Website Ready

Before you start looking into how to sell your website, you need to make sure you are ready.  You need to be able to provide potential buyers with as much information as you can. Buyers want to know how much traffic your website has, including page views and visitors. They will also want to know how quickly your website grew.

Your web host should have a statistics package for you. This way, you can have all the information in one place to show your potential buyers.

Have your financial figures ready to show. Many people would want to see a profit and loss statement, but you should provide more information than that if you can. If you did not have detailed bookkeeping records, you should try to determine how much money advertisers paid you, and your expenses, such as your web hosting and domain names. Once you have all of this information, it is time to sell.

Hire a Broker

You can hire a website broker to help you sell your website. They will do all of the advertising for you, and they generally handle the close. They will charge you a certain percentage of the sale.  How much this is depends on who you hire. Speak with a few brokers, and make sure you ask them for references so you can see how good they are at selling. The only downside to a broker is they do not actively market your site or look for buyers on their own. They basically advertise it in different areas.

Hire an Investment Bank

An investment bank works much like a broker, but they work hard to market your site and find buyers for you. Most investment banks already have buyers in place that they can market to, and if they are very successful, they likely have buyers that call them looking for websites to purchase.

If you do not want to pay someone to sell your website, you can sell it yourself. You should not do this, however, if you have no experience. You would likely not get as much money as you deserve.
